ABOUT LONGHUTAO

The Way of Nature · the Soul's Sanctuary

From the ancestral court of Longhu Mountain (Dragon Tiger Mountain), we venture forth, ever-mindful of the Celestial Master Zhang's teaching to "follow the Tao in its natural course." Our nine categories of talismans correspond to the nine great wishes in life. The immortal Tao cherishes life, seeking to aid all sentient beings. Established in the secular world, we aim to resolve life's many perplexities and challenges.

Our lightning-struck wood dispels evil to preserve righteous energy, while cinnabar from Chenzhou is used to inscribe the profound mysteries of destiny. Each item is spiritually consecrated by a High Priest, ensuring the eternal flourishing of our Taoist lineage.

Our purpose is not supernatural display, but the sincere wish to guide hearts with the Tao, to offer spiritual solace to the wandering soul, and to lead all back to the source of Eastern wisdom.

LONGHU Mountain

Longhu Mountain (Dragon Tiger Mountain) is the ancestral court of Taoism. During the Eastern Han Dynasty, the founding patriarch of Taoism, Celestial Master Zhang Daoling, refined elixirs here. When the "elixirs were completed, a dragon and tiger appeared," and the mountain was thus named. The fourth generation Celestial Master, Zhang Sheng, moved his residence to Longhu Mountain and established the foundation of the "Celestial Master hereditary family." To this day, it has been passed down for 63 generations over more than 1,900 years, earning a parallel reputation with the Confucius family of Qufu as "Zhang in the South, Confucius in the North."

The Yuan Emperor, Kublai Khan, officially bestowed upon the 36th generation Celestial Master, Zhang Zongyan, the title of "Heir to the Han Celestial Masters" and granted him authority over the talismans of the Three Mountains (Longhu, Maoshan, and Gezao). From that point on, Longhu Mountain became the origin of the "Altar of Ten Thousand Dharmas," presiding over the affairs of Taoism throughout the realm. Each generation of Celestial Masters has held the "Seal of Yangping Jurisdiction" and the "Ritual Sword" as their sacred objects of authority. The seal could command the hundred deities, and the sword could exorcise evil and slay malevolent spirits, symbolizing the profound power of Taoist magic.

As the Perfected Lord Xujing said: "The sacred registers of my lineage, in the high, can move Heaven and Earth; in the low, they can shake mountains and rivers. In the light, they can command dragons and tigers; in the dark, they can summon ghosts and spirits. Their power can raise the withered from bone, and their cultivation can allow one to transcend life and death. On a grand scale, they can bring prosperity to the nation; on a small scale, they can repel disasters and calamities." This demonstrates the vastness of their use and their ultimate spiritual efficacy.

  Zhengyi Dao

Zhengyi Dao, also known as the "Zhengyi School," is one of the major schools of Taoism. Its name comes from the principle: "To have an undivided heart for the Tao is the meaning of 'Orthodox Unity' (Zhengyi)."

During the reign of Emperor Chengzong of the Yuan Dynasty, the 38th generation descendant of Zhang Daoling, Zhang Yucai, was officially entitled the "Leader of the Zhengyi School." The Zhengyi tradition primarily focuses on the use of talismans and spiritual registers (fulu), purification rituals and grand ceremonies (zhaijiao), and praying for blessings to avert disasters. It places a strong emphasis on ceremony and magical arts.
