Who Should Participate in the "Pacify the Tai Sui" Rite?
December 9,2025
There is a common misconception that worshipping the Tai Sui is only for those who are currently "Offending the Tai Sui" (犯太歲). In truth, this is not the case.
Every year, a different Tai Sui Star Lord is "on duty," presiding over the good and bad fortune of the mortal world for that year. While those who are offending the Tai Sui (the Horse, Rat, Rabbit, and Ox in 2026) certainly must resolve this clash to avert disaster, others are also welcome to participate in the ceremony to pray for general blessings.
A Tradition of National Importance The tradition of worshipping the Tai Sui has a long history, recorded as early as the ancient Rites of Zhou. Since the Yuan and Ming dynasties, it was elevated to the status of a state sacrificial rite. According to Taoist tradition, these solemn grand ceremonies are held at the turn of the Lunar New Year. On a macro level, they pray for favorable weather and national peace; on a personal level, they resolve annual misfortunes and seek safety and smoothness for the individual.
A Ceremony for All Historically, the "Star Alignment Festival" (Shunxing Festival) was a day for the entire population to worship the stars, not just those in conflict with them. Anyone hoping for a smooth year ahead may participate in the Taoist "Pacify the Tai Sui" ceremony.
Through the High Priest constructing the altar, performing the sacred "Pacing of the Big Dipper," chanting scriptures, and presenting petitions to the heavens, we ask the presiding Tai Sui Star Lord for protection. This ensures family health, success in all endeavors, and the fulfillment of wishes for the coming year.
The 2026 Ceremony Following the thousand-year orthodox Taoist rituals, Grand Master in Purple Robes, Wang Luohai of Longhu Mountain, will construct the altar and perform the sacred rites.
On January 30, 2026, he will initiate the "Pacify the Tai Sui Blessing Ceremony." We sincerely invite benevolent believers from all ten directions to share in this divine grace, resolve calamities, and welcome auspicious blessings.
