Receiving Blessings and Celebrating the Sacred Birthday of Immortal Master Ge Xuan

Lord Ge Xuan, widely known as Ge Xianweng (The Immortal Elder Ge), was appointed by the Supreme Lord Lao as the Immortal Duke of the Left Palace of Taiji. He oversees the officials of the Great Demon Kings across the Three Realms and Six Heavens, and presides over the scriptures and registers of the Three Caverns. He resides in the Celestial Mechanism Palace. The sacred birthday of Lord Ge Xuan falls on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month. By following this article and reciting the Precious Eulogy of Immortal Ge, one may receive immeasurable blessings while also praying for world peace, prosperity, and harmony.

The eighth day of the fourth lunar month marks the sacred birthday of Lord Ge Xuan. On this day, we may recite the Precious Eulogy of Immortal Ge to receive boundless blessings and pray for peace, auspiciousness, and tranquility throughout the world.

Ge Xuan, courtesy name Xiaoxian, was a native of Danyang. He was born on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month in the seventh year of Yanxi during the reign of Emperor Huan of the Han Dynasty. Exceptionally intelligent from birth, he lost both of his parents at the age of eight. Thereafter, he withdrew into the famous mountains, seeking spiritual teachings and studying the Dao. Later, he encountered an enlightened master who transmitted secret methods to him. Through devoted cultivation, he gradually attained the Immortal Dao.

He then traveled throughout the lands of China, deeply lamenting the collapse of the Han Dynasty and the endless floods, droughts, and famines that brought suffering upon the people. Soldiers were wounded, civilians captured, and countless lives were lost in tragedy. The displaced spirits of the dead wandered in anguish, unable to find liberation.

Moved by compassion, Ge Xuan revised the Lingbao scriptures and sacred decrees, compiling great ritual methods for salvation and transcendence, celestial registers for guiding souls to ascension, as well as secret talismans and mystical teachings. He then reported these works to the Jade Emperor and established sacred ritual altars. Together with Celestial Master Zhang Daoling, Celestial Master Xu Xun, and Celestial Master Sa Shoujian, he is revered as one of the Four Great Celestial Masters of Daoism.

Appendix: Precious Eulogy of Immortal Ge
With utmost sincerity, we take refuge and pay homage.
You attained the Dao upon Mount Tiantai,
And achieved true realization at Gezao Mountain.
Formerly receiving teachings from Donghua,
You later journeyed westward to Shu.
By imperial decree from the Jade Capital and Golden Palace,
You ascended to the ranks of the Immortals of Taiji.
Out of compassion, you rescue those sunk in suffering;
With boundless grace, you aid all afflicted beings.
The noble legacy of the Ge Heavenly Clan shines brightly;
At Goulou Mountain, the cinnabar arts still endure.
You continued your travels through Kuocang,
And finally came to rest at Luofu Mountain.
You cultivated within the Jade Casket,
And restored the Golden Scriptures.
Great in compassion and great in vows,
Supremely sacred and infinitely merciful.
