The Supreme Level: The Giving of Wisdom (Shi Fa) True "Giving of the Teachings" occurs when a practitioner cultivates themselves according to the Law, verifying the Tao with their own life to serve as a model for all beings. By sharing the wisdom found in the classics, they help others break through confusion and attain enlightenment. This form of giving carries the highest merit.
2. The Middle Level: The Giving of Action (Shi Shen) "Giving of the Body" means doing what is within one’s power to aid the world. It is the act of helping others without a discriminatory mind and without seeking reward. Examples include helping the elderly cross the street, volunteering at a Taoist temple, sweeping the halls, or protecting the sacred grounds.
3. The Fundamental Level: The Giving of Wealth (Shi Cai) "Giving of Wealth" is sharing one's material goods or technical skills with those in need. This includes food, clothing, money, and craftsmanship to help others escape immediate difficulties.
