The Way of Thunderstruck Wood & Cinnabar: Taoist Culture & Sacred Objects

NOVEMBER 5,2025

When a tree of great age encounters the astonishing thunder of the Nine Heavens, the sacred object known in Taoist culture as "impervious to all evil"—Thunderstruck Wood—is born.

Taoist scriptures record that jujube and peach trees struck by celestial thunder yet still remaining alive condense the potent, righteous Qi ( 罡氣- gāngqì) of the Divine Generals of the Thunder Department. This Qi possesses the power to sever all yin and malevolent energies.

Taoist adepts take this wood, still brimming with life, and besides crafting it into command tokens ( 權杖- lìngpái),ritual seals(法印- fǎyìn),and the like, also create numerous protective ritual implements(護身法器- hùshēn fǎqì). Those with the karmic affinity to obtain such an item can use it to gather righteous energy, repel evil spirits ( 邪祟- xiésuì),and bring peace to their soul(神魄- shénpò).

  • A thousand-year-old ancient tree that has been struck by lightning

For LonghuTao's Thunderstruck Wood collection, every piece of wood is sourced from wild jujube trees in the Zhongnan Mountains (终南山) that are over 600 years old, possessing a profound heritage.

We adhere to ancient methods, selecting only wood from trees that remained alive after being struck by lightning. Before harvesting, we perform the proper rites, informing the Thunder God, the Mountain God, and the local Earth God. The lightning's power is then sealed within the wood according to Taoist methods, preserving its spiritual essence from dissipating.

After being harvested, the wood is never artificially kiln-dried or rushed. Instead, we patiently wait for years as it naturally air-dries in the shade, only then forming the perfect foundation for a thunder-blessed ritual implement.

  • This pendant is imbued with the blessings of the orthodox Taoist rites of Longhu Mountain. As a Taoist ritual implement, it can be used to commune with the divine, aid in spiritual cultivation, protect the body, and repel evil. It is designed to build a dynamically balanced energy barrier (Jiejie) for the wearer. It facilitates communion with the divine during meditation and offers protection when visiting mountains or places with heavy yin/negative energy.
  • This long strand is composed of 108 thunderstruck wood beads, each one tempered by the power of natural lightning. It is created without any concrete symbols or writing, returning to the most authentic and primordial state of energy. To be wordless is to embody 'emptiness' (Śūnyatā), and thus, it can infinitely carry and resonate with your every state of mind and intention in the present moment.
  • This piece is carved from a section of 600-year-old wild thunderstruck jujube wood from the Zhongnan Mountains, specifically selected from the "lightning-charred" core where the thunder's energy is most concentrated. What makes this piece exceptionally rare is the natural formation of both lightning scars and "lightning crystals" (雷晶子 - léi jīng zǐ) on its surface.
  • From the Zhengyi lineage of Longhu Mountain, inheriting a thousand-year spiritual tradition, we now condense the dual fortunes of Heaven and Earth—the wisdom of Wenchang and the wealth of the God of Fortune—into this 'Dual-Luck Key'.

After being crafted into their final form, a High Priest from LonghuTao selects an auspicious date and time, opens the sacred altar, and performs the complete ritual, petitioning the multitude of Perfected Beings (Deities) to descend. He then infuses the ritual implement with true spiritual essence, imbuing it with the energy and consciousness of the true divinities, enabling the wearer to achieve a superior level of protection.

Those with the karmic affinity may choose a style they favor and respectfully obtain this gift from the heavens for themselves or their family.

Cinnabar

Cinnabar, known in antiquity as Dansha, is considered the ultimate yang substance born from the very lifeblood of the Earth, originating from the sacred union of yin and yang between volcanic heat and cold springs. Named for its vibrant red color, it is honored in the Baopuzi as the "chief of the eight stones."

In Taoism, Cinnabar is regarded as a sacred object of pure yang, representing light, righteous energy (Zhengqi), and divine authority. Possessing the power to subdue all things yin and evil, it serves as a crucial medium for communicating with the divine and purifying spaces. It is widely utilized in various Taoist spiritual practices, including the drawing of talismans, alchemy, and rites for repelling evil.

All products in LonghuTao's Cinnabar collection are sourced from natural raw cinnabar ore. The ore is washed and sun-dried using traditional artisanal methods. It is then refined and shaped, compressing the cinnabar powder under high pressure to create matte beads, pendants, and other items. This process both inherits the ancient method of "using red Qi to protect the primal self" (赤气护元 - chì qì hù yuán) and adds a contemporary, fashionable texture.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Cinnabar is said to enter the Heart meridian and possesses the efficacy of calming the heart and settling the spirit (镇静安神 - zhènjìng ānshén). It can help improve insomnia and excessive dreaming.

Furthermore, due to its ultimate yang nature, and additionally being spiritually empowered by a High Priest, its efficacy in repelling evil is even more pronounced.

Those with the karmic affinity may choose a style they favor and respectfully obtain a beautiful and fashionable protective treasure (护身法宝 - hùshēn fǎbǎo) for themselves or their family.
